Karwan Lodge Travelling Gavel

The Worshipful Master, W.Bro Brian Baker, and Brethren of Karwan Lodge No.8970 hosted the Worshipful Masters of Prince of Wales Lodge No.1705, W.Bro Ray Matthews, and Alwarestoch Lodge No.7805, W.Bro Terry Coatsworth, to a special meeting of a Passing Ceremony for Bro. Chris Woodhall and the passing of the Travelling Gavel. It was a special meeting in that Karwan Lodge had gone ‘mob handed’ with a team of 7, including the WM, to Prince of Wales, at their February meeting, in the hope of wresting away the Gavel from Gosport out to Fareham. Karwan Lodge was successful in having the greatest number of visitors from a single Lodge on the evening. The Gavel was ceremoniously handed over to the WM of Karwan at the festive board. In return, the WM of Alwarestoch Lodge made his intentions clear of visiting Karwan, at their March meeting, with members of his Lodge in the hope of bringing the Gavel back into Gosport!

A highly successful return visit was evidenced when 7 members of Alwarestoch ‘flash-mobbed’ Karwan and the Gavel was duly, and ceremoniously, handed over to W.Bro Terry Coatsworth, their WM.

The Travelling Gavel is proving an excellent reason for visiting within the Solent area, and should be encouraged at every level. Two very successful visits has resulted in reciprocal arrangements being made into the future. Long may it continue
